Diagnostic Evaluation

This comprehensive assessment is the first step for all new patients. It helps identify psychiatric and mental health concerns and involves discussing your symptoms, medications, and personal history to gain a thorough understanding of your needs. The goal is to provide an accurate diagnosis and make recommendations for a personalized treatment plan.

This evaluation can be done as a stand-alone service to obtain clarity about your mental health or as part of the intake process to become an ongoing patient.

Medication Management

Medication management is a personalized service where your provider monitors and adjusts medications to optimize their effectiveness in treating your mental health conditions. Regular follow-up appointments are necessary to assess progress, manage side effects, and ensure that treatment helps you meet your goals. Patients with untreated, newly diagnosed conditions or those who are starting new medication will initially see the provider every 2-4 weeks, then less frequently as their condition improves.

Integrative Psychotherapy

Integrative psychotherapy is something unique to Joyful Mind Psychiatry. It's an approach to outpatient psychiatric care where medication management and brief supportive psychotherapy are blended together and delivered by the same provider. While starting, changing, or maintaining psychiatric medication, therapy focuses on exploring thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, allowing patients to gain insight, develop coping skills, and work toward meaningful goals, while allowing the provider to detect and point out signs that the patient's condition is improving. Any medication concerns that arise during treatment can be quickly identified and addressed by the provider. Patients enjoy the benefits of fewer appointments and faster recovery than if they received services from two different providers at different locations.

Supportive psychotherapy offers a dedicated space to understand patterns in your life and build resilience. This therapeutic journey can foster deeper self-awareness, empower healthier choices, and improve emotional well-being. Sessions are designed to adapt to each person’s evolving goals, helping them navigate life’s complexities and enhance their overall quality of life.

  • Want some clarity and direction about their symptoms and experiences.

  • Are seeking possible medication management for their symptoms.

  • Understand that a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism may not be the outcome of this assessment.

What to Expect

For verbally fluent individuals age 10 to adult, confirming or ruling out Autism or ADHD can be a powerful step toward discovering new ways to navigate life. You will be assessed in a variety of ways, according to specific criteria from the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5-TR and, if appropriate, a diagnosis will be made, with recommendations for ongoing treatment and support.

To arrive at an accurate diagnosis, 2-3 appointments may be necessary in order to collect sufficient information for diagnosis.

Statement of Medical Necessity: Your insurance may not cover the evaluation or additional appointments if your symptoms are not causing significant dysfunction or distress and your ability to function on a daily basis. It is the patient's responsibility to check with their insurance carrier regarding coverage.
