Welcome to Joyful Mind Psychiatry

I’m Dr. Kristen Myers, founder and CEO of Joyful Mind Psychiatry. I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a doctorate in nursing, a master's in public health, and over 20 years of nursing experience.

Since 2010, I’ve had the privilege of serving in diverse mental health care settings, including inpatient psychiatric units, emergency departments, crisis centers, correctional facilities, homeless shelters, outpatient clinics, and residential treatment programs for children. This breadth of experience has provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health care and the challenges individuals and families face in navigating these systems.

In addition to clinical work, I’ve spent over a decade teaching undergraduate and graduate students in nursing and public health. My courses have spanned psychiatric and community health nursing, emergency preparedness, and the social and behavioral sciences. This teaching experience has honed my ability to turn complex mental health concepts into clear, practical information—empowering clients and families to feel informed and confident in their care.

On a personal level, I am both a trauma survivor and a mother to two neurodivergent children. These experiences have given me unique insight into what it’s like to navigate a fragmented mental health care system as both a patient and a parent. I understand how daunting it can be to seek help—and how vital compassionate, accessible care truly is.

At Joyful Mind Psychiatry, I aim to provide a different kind of care experience. One that is personable, seamless, and honors the beautifully unique qualities that make you or your loved one who they are. Here, I’m not just your provider—I’m your partner on this journey. Together, we’ll work toward understanding, growth, and meaningful progress in your mental health journey.

My Approach

At Joyful Mind Psychiatry, I provide a unique approach to mental health care that blends the ability to prescribe medication with supportive psychotherapy—all in one place. Unlike many psychiatric providers, I take an integrative approach, offering both treatment and therapeutic support tailored to your needs. I am deeply invested in the mental health and well-being of each of my patients, working collaboratively to help you feel balanced, empowered, and connected to your authentic self.

My approach starts by meeting you exactly where you are, creating a space where you feel safe, seen, and accepted. Together, we lay the foundation for an open and trusting relationship, moving at your pace on a personal journey of self-discovery. This journey isn’t rushed—when the time is right, we’ll explore who you are, how you arrived here, what you stand for, and where you dream of going next.

I may recommend prescription medication as part of your treatment plan. However, I will always respect your right to choose. I do not force my patients to take medication. I integrate elements from multiple approaches based on what I believe will be most effective for your situation, personality, and goals.

The main techniques I like to use are:

Getting help isn’t about changing who you are; it’s about helping you grow into the healthiest, most authentic version of yourself. Your symptoms don’t have to control your life. Together, we can work through challenges so that you can face them with clarity and confidence—without losing what makes you uniquely you. Reach out today, and let’s begin this journey together.
